Garden Route, just waiting for you to enjoy. If you like
what you see, then please take advantage of what we have to
offer you in the way of the golfing holiday of a lifetime.
That’s the first step you have to take in planning your

to live the SWING EASY TOURS golfing experience, you can
call or e-mail us so that we can learn more about you. That
will enable us to then design a tour to meet your exclusive

individual itinerary which you will be under no obligation
to accept. In fact, we would welcome any comments or
suggestions from you because when all is said and done, YOU

THE COURSES
Of the more than 300 golf courses dotted across the face of
South Africa, the Western Cape is home to some which are as
good as you will find anywhere. Often their settings are
breathtaking to behold.
Visitors are, of course, always welcome and, given the
attractiveness of the South African currency against the
United States dollar or the Pound Sterling, green-fees must
rank amongst the most affordable in the world. Here we
highlight just three courses you may discover in the
Western Cape and along the Garden Route during the course
of your SWING EASY TOURS holiday in South Africa.
ROYAL CAPE GOLF CLUB - Cape Town
Royal Cape is South Africa’s oldest golf club having been
established in 1885 when the British occupiers of the Cape
Colony decided to introduce the game. The club’s present
site in Cape Town’s southern suburbs is its third since its
inception.
Known initially as the Cape Golf Club, the title “Royal”
was conferred on the club to commemorate a visit in 1910 by
HRH The Duke of Connaught who was representing King George
V at the opening of the first Parliament of the Union of
South Africa.
Royal Cape is a true championship course and has hosted the
SA Open on 11 occasions and the SA Amateur Championship
eight times. The course is a reasonably flat lay-out with
narrow, tree-lined fairways demanding accuracy off the
tees. It offers a fine test of golf, especially in windy
conditions.
ERINVALE GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB - Somerset West
Designed by perhaps South Africa’s greatest golfer ever,
Gary Player, the Erinvale Golf Course at Somerset West is
considered to be one of the Western Cape Province’s finest.
Situated at the foot of the Helderberg Mountains which
provide welcome relief from the winds which can buffet the
area, Erinvale played host to the IGA World Cup of Golf in
1996.
Surrounded by spectacular views, the first nine holes at
Erinvale have been laid out in a valley whereas the second
nine, situated on more undulating terrain, require a bit
more legwork. There are many bunkers and water hazards on
both nine’s. Par is 72.
Erinvale boasts a modern clubhouse and a well-equipped pro
shop.
FANCOURT GOLF CLUB ESTATE - George,Garden Route
There are many fine golf estates in South Africa, but the
one discerning golfers always seem to want to return to is
Fancourt. That is hardly surprising since the Fancourt
Hotel
& Country Club Estate, the only South African golf estate
recognised by the prestigious “Great Golf Resorts of the
World”, is set amidst the scenic splendour of the Outeniqua
Mountains and boasts no fewer than four courses. Two of
Fancourt’s courses, the Gary Player-designed Montagu and
The Links, are rated among the Top Ten South African
courses by Compleat Golfer. The Links will be the venue for
the 2003 President’s Cup tournament.
Fancourt’s other attractions include a modern clubhouse, a
restaurant, a well-equipped pro shop, a gym and wellness
centre, a golf school with a driving range and class rooms.
